Globle
Globle hides one country and asks you to find it on a spinning globe. Type any country and it is coloured in: pale when you are far away, deepening towards red the closer you get, so every guess tightens the circle. Guesses are unlimited and there is a new mystery country each day. It arrived in 2022 among the Wordle offshoots, but its real ancestor is the playground game of hot and cold. For families it is the gentlest geography game we know, because nobody is ever stuck; a seven-year-old can play by typing countries they have heard of and watching the colours change. The drawback is spelling: a guess has to be a recognised country name typed correctly, and small or recently renamed countries can trip up younger players.

Guess Big Countries First
Most rounds take three to eight minutes. Start with large countries on different continents — Brazil, Russia, Australia — to find the warm half of the world quickly, then work inwards through the neighbours. Spin the globe between guesses to see the colours side by side. With young children, let them do the guessing and an adult do the spinning; it keeps everyone busy and turns the round into a conversation about where places are.
